                                 EXHIBITION OF PAINTINGS
      
             
       ARANMULAYUDE NIRAKKOOTTU
                      (ARANMULA IN COLOURS) 


Aranmula is a heritage village recognized by UNO taking account of its heritage value and cultural contributions. Exhibition of Paintings namely Aranmulayude Nirakkoottu(Aranmula in colours) by 48 leading Artists of Kerala was held at TDM hall, Ernakulam, Kerala from 25th January to 1st February 2015. The exhibition was conducted as a follow up programme of a 3 days Camp organized by Aranmula Heritage Trust at Aranmula in May 2014. They expressed their concern on destruction of environment, Heritage, Trees, Water bodies, Art and Culture, in canvas.



As a curtain raiser to the exhibition, a symbolic travel of a Brass pot containing the Soil of Aranmula started from “puthariyal” in front of Aranmula Temple at 10 am on 23rd of February 2015. The pot was handed over to the Chairman of Aranmula heritage trust, Shri Kummanam Rajasekharan by the oldest farmer of Aranmula. The Pot was ceremoniously received at TDM hall, Ernakulam by Artist Shri K .K Warrier on 23rd January 2015. Artist Shri Kaladharan presided, Shri Kummanam Rajasekharan stated that the soil of Aranmula carries a great heritage of Agriculture. Shri Warrier mentioned in his speech that Artists performed great service of the cause of protecting the environment.


  

A ceremonial flag heralding the commencement of Exhibition was hoisted by Film Director, Major Ravi, on 24th January. Major Ravi stated that it is commendable that the Artists are coming forward to participate in protecting the environment and heritage. He urged the younger generation to come forward to spread the message.  





 
The exhibition was inaugurated on 25th January by Cardinal George Alencherry by lighting the Lamp. Prof. M K Sanu, Chairman of the organizing committee presided. Guests were received with VANCHIPPATT (Songs of oarsmen). Cardinal, in his address, stated that the exhibition is an Art delight and Artists who created then deserves great respect from public. These Artists are role models to the world, he stated.


Prof. M K Sanu started his presidential address with a story from Sakuntalam. When the deer chased by Dushyanta enters the Ashram of Kanva, his disciples plead with the king not to kill the deer. The Artists who created the paintings are similarly by pleading for protection of nature.  Protecting the environment is the actual development.  By protecting the Rivers, Hills, Water bodies, Soil etc, we are protecting the future generations.  By doing this, we will command respect of the world, Prof. Sanu added.  Shri Kummanam Rajasekharan gave a detailed account of the Artists camp and the effects being made to protect and preserve our great heritage.










The exhibition attracted large crowds. Famous Aranmula Mirror and other Artifacts were also displayed.












A meeting was held to pay tributes to Shri R.K Lakshman, famous cartoonist.











The concluding session on 1st Feb was inaugurated by Shri Binoy Viswam, former Forest Minister at a function presided over by Justice M. Ramachandran. Shri Binoy Viswam expressed his continues support for the struggles at Aranmula for protecting environment and heritage.
